Excalibur Hotel & Casino Las Vegas Attractions

The 100,000-square-foot (9,300 m²) gaming area at Excalibur consists of both table games and over 1,400 slot machines. In addition to casino space, the Excalibur resort includes a renovated pool area, a 13,000-square-foot (1,200 m²) spa and fitness center, eight restaurants and a food court, the Chapel at Excalibur, and the Octane Lounge & The Lounge with live music on the weekends.

Excalibur is home to three permanent shows: the all-male revue Thunder From Down Under, The Australian Bee Gees Show, a tribute to the Bee Gees and the medieval themed dinner show Tournament of Kings. Thunder From Down Under moved to Excalibur in July 2001 and since then has received recognition as one of the best all-male strip shows in Las Vegas. In 2006, the performance space was renamed the “Thunder From Down Under Showroom” in honor of the troupe. Tournament of Kings is a medieval jousting tournament performed with 12 breeds of horses and 32 cast members in a 925-seat amphitheater called King Arthur’s Arena. The show includes a banquet feast served by a costumed serf or wench and is meant to be eaten without utensils. Tournament of Kings debuted along with the opening of Excalibur in 1990.

Dick’s Last Resort restaurant opened at Excalibur in June 2007. Dick’s is known for its unusual dining experience in which servers purposefully act obnoxious towards guests. Employee “Taco” is considered Dick’s mascot and entertains guests with his own version of the Bellagio fountain show using water dispensers behind the bar.

It currently houses one of the few McDonald’s in the world to vend Pepsi instead of Coke.

Named after King Arthur’s legendary sword, Excalibur is a hotel at the south end of the Strip that mixes medieval style with modern conveniences.

The vibe
Fun-for-all-ages atmosphere, no frills accommodations, faux castle theme

What we love
There’s an obvious reason why people choose to stay at Exalibur: it’s cheap (well, cheaper than almost anything else you’ll find on the Strip). On nonpeak nights you might see rates as low as $29 — and even with the resort fee, you’ll still save a bundle.

Although this gigantic white castle with spires of bright red, blue and gold doesn’t quite hearken back to the Middle Ages, you’ll love tweeting out from the drawbridge or the Fun Dungeon (just rein in your “50 Shades of Grey” fantasies because this is an arcade and carnival-style midway for families).

The show “Tournament of Kings” is an inexpensive option for food and entertainment. It includes a three-course meal that you eat with your fingers (finally, a chance to set your inner peasant free). You’ll also love cheering for the knights on horseback while pounding on the table and waving your fists.

Good to know
Don’t expect the rooms at Excalibur to have medieval décor. The furnishings are traditional — no garderobes here (and thank god because if you know what a garderobe is you don’t want one). The standard tower rooms are older and cheaper than the contemporary tower rooms, which were remodeled in 2009 and a little more modern. Also, if you smoke in a non-smoking room, there will be a $300 fine at checkout. Save yourself the trouble and light up in designated smoking areas like the casino.

There are no coffeemakers in the rooms. So if you’re jonesing for a java, you’ll have to hoof it over to Starbucks or the Castle Walk Food Court.

Beware of the people in suits standing near the main entrance, at the elevator banks and in the passage to Luxor. They are not hotel staff. They are selling timeshares and will offer you things like a welcome gift or free show tickets. If you want to sit through a four-hour presentation, go ahead…or be like the rest of us and just walk on by. You’re in Vegas. You’ve got better things to do.

Insider tips
Excalibur is connected to Luxor (which in turn is connected to Mandalay Bay) by an enclosed passage. This is great on summer days when — trust us — you don’t want to walk out in the sweltering heat. There’s also a free tram that will take you to Mandalay Bay and return you from Mandalay Bay via Luxor.

The Buffet at Excalibur has been retooled. It’s not only brighter and more modern, but the food is good too — especially for the price (about half of what you’d pay at the elite buffets in Vegas). The Buffet at Excalibur features made-to-order crepes and hand-rolled ice cream pops.

Craving a little pampering but don’t want to shell out loads of extra money? The Spa at Excalibur will treat you like a queen (or king) for a day for much less than what you’d pay at other spas on the Strip.

If you’ve got a car, you should access Excalibur from Frank Sinatra Drive and not directly from the Strip. This will take you behind the resort to its three-story self-parking garage. You’ll then walk across the road (Luxor Drive) and enter through the rear entrance.

The Excalibur has the following dining options:

The Steakhouse at Camelot
Excalibur Hotel Las Vegas - The Steakhouse at Camelot
The Steakhouse at Camelot offers prime cuts of beef, but the menu extends far beyond traditional steaks.
For starters, try the Maryland crab cakes or the bacon wrapped shrimp. Soups like French onion and tomato basil bisque will arm you up on chilly days.
For main courses, there are steaks like the New York strip and an eight-ounce filet mignon. However, there are also comfort foods offered like country-style meat loaf, deep dish chicken pot pie, pork chops with apricot chutney and slow-roasted chicken. There are also lots of seafood options like seared tuna steak, grilled shrimp with garlic and stuffed shrimp with crab meat and cognac sauce.
The dining room is a mixture of tables and arm chairs and large banquettes. The restaurant features a semi-open kitchen.

Baja Fresh
Las Vegas Excalibur Hotel Casino - Baja Fresh

Dick’s Last Resort
Las Vegas Excalibur Hotel Casino - Dick's Last Resort
At Dick’s Last Resort, the staff is rowdy and sassy, the food is messy and the decor is quirky at best–but it’s a really good time.
This casual-dining restaurant offers live music to entertain you, if your witty server doesn’t already. If you think you can sing, you might be asked to do a rendition of your favorite song. Or, don’t be surprised if some other unsuspecting patron gets up and sings “Achy Breaky Heart” while line dancing, solo.
Dick’s platters are stacked high with finger-food choices like beef ribs, roasted chicken and crab legs. You are encouraged to use your hands and get a little messy in this irreverent eatery.
There is also plenty to drink including nine flavors of daiquiris to wash down finger foods like wings and chicken fingers. Dick’s cocktail glasses are deep and filled with massive volumes of concoctions.

Drenched (open only in the summer)
Las Vegas Excalibur Hotel Casino - Ditched Pool
Drenched is a poolside restaurant at Excalibur where you have the option to dine at the restaurant or have the food delivered to your cabana or lounge chair. There are six food stations serving a variety of cuisines including American, Asian, Italian and Latin. Highlights include made-to-order omelets for breakfast, vanilla bean adobo chicken tacos for lunch and salmon with hibiscus glaze as well as Cajun crab mac and cheese for dinner.
On Friday nights, sea lubbers will discover a fish extravaganza — with dishes featuring crawfish, blue crab, crab legs, sushi and peel-and-eat shrimp.
The focal point of The Buffet at Excalibur is, without a doubt, the dessert station. It contains two interactive stations where you can order crepes and ice cream bars that are hand-rolled and dipped in white or milk chocolate then covered in sprinkles or cookie crumbles and served in a little dish that you’ll quickly forget about after the first lick. You might end up messy if you don’t eat them quickly, but just get someone to help you lap up the leftovers and you’ll be fine.
And if you need a little courage to ask that person for help, you can score all-you-can-drink beer or house wine for $7.99. It only lasts for two hours from the time you start, so drink up and enjoy!
